LANRoamer Overview

LANRoamer is a set of scripts that run in a variety of Linux (Kernel 2.4.4 or higher with iptables) environments where the machine is located between a wireless Access Point and the Internet. The purpose is to global LANRoamer Architecture capture wireless attempts to access the internet and provide a accounting for the usage. This can then be used to compensate public access wireless providers for access they provide to wireless roamers.

LANRoamer Gateway is open-source code released under the provisions of the GPL and works on top of iptables. It facilitates a public roaming service, giving LANRoamer participants wireless access to the Internet through each affiliate's access point(s).

The software makes an iso9660 CDROM file system, which you booted to make a LANRoamer Gateway. The software is a dedicated Linux configuration with iptables, a redirecting web server, sshd, etc. We are also releasing a new version that can also be configured as a (Metricom) Ricochet-to-802.11b Gateway.
