Why Wireless?
What Can I Expect?
Why should you want wireless?
In a word, convenience. When you are wireless you can carry your work
or other activity with you from room to room in your house or to the pool
to show your son the game that you found or to the kitchen to show your wife
the choices of airline flights that you have discovered. When someone
calls from work you can simply move your laptop near the telephone that is
convenient. At work you can carry your laptop with its connection to
customer and competitive information to your bosses office or possibly
to the lobby, the break room or the parking lot.
Wireless gives facilities more flexibility. An 802.11b wireless LAN
can support from one up to 50 users and you don't have to plan in advance how many
"Cat 5" wires will be used and where they need to be located. Collaboration
is much more productive when the collaborators have laptops and share documents
and information while conversing on the topic. Often the point that an individual
is making will stimulate related thoughts in those that hear. Being
connected they can easily accumulate data from net sources so that when the
first individual is at an end, a more thoughtful, documented reaction will
come back from the others. The whole process becomes more productive.
Wireless connectivity facilitates rapid reorganization among the collaborators.
Groups can grow and shrink easily as required.
Wireless hot zones through LANRoamer Access Points provides the mobile user with the means to stay connected as he moves about beyond his home location.
